Why do I see different accessibility scores on the Chrome extension and within RAMP?
Don't worry, it's probably normal. In rare instances dynamic content may create discrepancies between scores.
On rare occasions, you may see a difference in scan results between RAMP and the Chrome extension, Accessible Web Helper.
While this may be confusing, it's likely due to a minor difference in viewable content or time difference when RAMP and the user extension evaluate the page for violations.
Here are some common instances of this issue happening:
- A cookie banner, other banner, or pop-up is visible when scanned by Accessible Web RAMP, but the user has dismissed the banner within the Chrome Extension.
- Reload the page in Incognito mode to check, and if it's determined to be the issue, we recommend reading more about Bot Actions as a potential workaround.
- Animations could also be the culprit of a discrepancy between scores. The extension has likely let the animations finish.
- For example, animations that start at a different opacity or color may trigger contrast violations.
- Resolution and viewport disparities between the user's view and RAMPs could also cause score differences. RAMP scans pages with a fresh browser in the cloud at a certain resolution.
- Every user's browser is unique. Browser extensions, downloaded themes, etc., can overwrite styling, and the extension will include these differences.
Get in touch if you think the difference lies outside of these instances.
