What is the "Maintenance Phase"?

The "maintenance phase" refers to the stage of compliance where you preserve your level of accessibility by continuing to adhere to best accessibility practices.

Accessibility is not a one-and-done project. It's important to maintain accessibility practices as your organization expands, moves to new projects, releases new software, etc. Plus, it's the law.

By entering the maintenance phase, you've proven a commitment to accessibility. That's a huge accomplishment!

However, compliance requires continuous testing, keeping your accessibility advocate information up-to-date, and other items. You must also assist any user experiencing an issue accessing, or using your site. Essentially, keep accessibility at the forefront of your organization's workflows instead of letting it become an afterthought.

Ways to do this include automatic testing, which RAMP provides, making sure new products are thoroughly tested by people using assistive technology, hiring people with disabilities at all levels of your organization, and establishing periodical testing for barrier reporting, etc.
